You know how you sometimes point your phone at a sunset and think ‘there’s no way it’s going to capture the glory of what I see before me’. Well on this particular occasion, my little iPhone did quite an amazing job. I have no idea what particular fluke of atmospherics lead to this result, but the sky was spectacular on this particular evening. It threw up such unlikely colours I found myself excitedly calling my four year old to “Come, look!” and then delighting in his *gasp* and the reaction: “Mummy, it’s BEAUTIFUL”. So good. Is it just me or has this been a really wintry winter here in Perth? I don’t think it’s just me. Usually we get many (cold) days of big blue skies interspersed with the odd bit of rain here and there. But right now it seems we’re getting many days of rain upon rain upon grey skies, interspersed with the odd day of blue. And what that means is, I find myself dreaming of summer. {Colours of Perth} Gorgeous Gumnuts

Is there anything more ‘Aussie’ than a gumnut? And how about these perfect specimens I found in the front yard of a neighbour. (Hopefully said neighbours weren’t too freaked out by a strange girl leaning precariously over their front fence trying to get the perfect angle on her gumnut photo!) Capturing the silvery highlights of the actual gumnuts in this photo ended up being beyond the capabilities of myself and my graphics program so in the end I had to retreat back to the stronger tones of the leaves and the stem.
