So the new year has begun and with it comes the question – what’s going to be hot in home décor and design in 2016? Well we’ve scoured all the best design blogs for you and here’s what they’re saying:
1. Colours
It seems it’s time to get back to basics with natural hues and greys in all shades from light to dark. These colours really compliment the industrial look that is currently hot and allow for powerful accents to be created via your soft furnishings.
Navy and yellow are currently hot and of course black and white will always combine well with grey interiors accented by organic elements.
2. Materials
Natural elements and stunning metals are the key materials this year. For the earthy look, try wood and stone. And of course these materials are always going to be beautifully enhanced by gold, silver, copper or bronze. You don’t want to overdo things but working these metallics into door handles, pendant lamps and faucets (for example) are a great way to work these on trend materials into your home.
3. Texture and pattern
The designers have predicted a real move towards the use of geometric and quilt-like patterns. This can apply to bedding, cushions, rugs plus other mediums including ceramic tiling. Animal prints are another trend for this year (but the use of these should be sparing and kept to a minimum). Do look around; these styles are appearing in the shops everywhere.
4. Room layout and design
Thanks to Pinterest the ideas at our fingers are never ending. And can also be overwhelming! In 2016 the ‘urban look’ is very in: uncluttered spaces using natural materials and handmade objects.
One expert articulated it as a time of sophisticated interiors, rich in surfaces and colour but pared back. A palette of one or two colours and rather than a lot of furniture, each piece will be a standalone statement.
The ultimate goal of home décor is creating a space where you are happy and in which you’re comfortable. Just remember it does not take a huge budget, to ‘up trend’ your home. Some new colour on your walls and a few geometric cushions covers and a (very) little bit of bling will do it.
